This Holiday, I Get by With a Little Help From My Friends!

Releasing a new Holiday Collection is one of my favorite things I get to do every year!

2017 was a really hard year and to be honest, I’ve spent a lot of 2018 recovering from it.

My Mom was diagnosed with cancer in March (after going to the ER on Christmas Eve 2016). I was fortunate enough to have the ability to be her primary care giver because of the flexibility I have being a small business owner. Last fall while caring for her, I knew creating a new variety of Holiday cards was going to be an impossible feet on my own.

I reached out to a friend to help and she created quite a few designs. Then Thanksgiving got here and my Mom took a turn for the worse. Holiday Cards were one of the last things on my mind. But, thanks to friends and past customers the orders still rolled in. Mom passed away on December 2nd and celebrating the Holidays just wasn’t something I wanted to do.

Then I remembered how much my Mom loved my Holiday Cards. In fact, she picked one out for last year that we never got around to printing or mailing. Instead, I used the design with the picture she picked out on the program for her service.

This year as I face the holiday season for the first time without my Mom, I knew I still needed help from my friends and I reached out to several design friends. It has been so fun to see the designs they have come up with. Plus I love having a wider variety of options to offer this year.

Over the next few days I want you to get to know my talented friends and will be introducing them to you. It has never been more true, that this holiday, I get by with a little help from my friends. Until then, here is a look at a selection of new designs.

Texas Strong | Harvey Fundraiser

As a native Texan, I have been heartbroken over the devastation that has ravished the southern part of my state and now seems to be moving east to Louisiana. Thankfully my family and friends are safe (some are dryer than others), but this isn’t the case with hundreds of thousands of other Texas residents. I’ve been blown away watching the coverage and seeing neighbor after neighbor help each other out and have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support coming from all over the country! We are all Texas Strong!

While watching the coverage on the news I started doodling an image to post on social media and thought, why not use that design as a fundraiser. I’d been trying to think of a way that the KateOGroup could help through this time of tragedy and I thought why not create something you get as a thanks for making a donation.

Floral Tribal Baby Shower Invitation

In between branding and web design projects I often get to put my graphic design skills to use designing invitations for special events. I love being able to be a small part of so many wonderful days.

I designed this Floral Tribal Baby Shower Invitation for a baby shower this past weekend.

The girls hosting the shower did such an amazing job with their decorations and food and really utilizing this theme. In addition to the invitation I also designed a few other items they used in the decor, including: water bottle labels, food sign or tents, guess the due date sign in calendar and a signs for a few shower games.

Although the most fun thing was seeing elements from this floral tribal baby shower invitation design made into baked goods. There is a local bakery, The Purple Kitchen, who did a fabulous job designing not only a gorgeous cake and cookies but they were delicious too!

DIY Valentine's for Galentines

I wanted to share these fun little goodies I put together for the ladies in book club on the off chance you’re still trying to put together DIY Valentine’s for friends or even a Galentines get together! There’s still plenty of time to recreate this easy DIY Valentine’s project before the big day on Sunday!

This year for Valentine’s Day I wanted to do something a little different and decided to create Valentine’s cards that you print yourself. There are 4 different themes and each theme has 4 different designs. When you purchase one of them you’ll receive a 2 page PDF. One page of the PDF is set up with 8 Valentine’s cards, 2 of each design, and the second PDF is a seamless design that doesn’t have to be perfectly lined up with the other page allowing you to have double sided Valentine’s cards. I also decided to create some Valentine’s gift wrap which you can see in action here, I used it to wrap the mini bottles of wine to make them look more festive:

I got the clear bags, candy and mini wine bottles at Target; the one stop shopping made putting these galentine gifts together even easier! Since they are DIY you can really customize them to the people you are giving them to. In our book club we have one non-drinker, one girl who only drinks white so I was able to easily adjust the gifts for them.

First I printed out the printable emoji Valentine’s cards and accidentally printed them portrait instead of landscape but loved how cute they were in the miniature size! Next, I divided out the candies, then cut the Love gift wrap (available in sheets of 20″ x 29″) into strips to wrap around the wine bottles. Once the bottles were wrapped I began filling the bags. They were finished off with some red and white twine and the emoji Valentine.

2015 Holiday Collection

Designing this year’s holiday collection was so much fun! I had a couple things that stole my heart and I couldn’t help but use them in multiple ways. One of those was this little guy, I affectionately call the Hipster Deer:
