You have many different options when it comes to setting up a blog for free. I always recommend WordPress because of its diversity and capabilities. For most people who just want to give blogging a try, setting up a free blog through WordPress.com is easy and the right fit. In the last couple of weeks I’ve had the opportunity to help convert a couple of free blogs to self-hosted blogs and we wanted to give them a little love!
Everyone you talk to will probably give you different advice on where to go for hosting when you venture into the realm of a self-hosted site. I recommend HostGator. The first blog that was moved was Life is a Run. Beth, one of the ladies behind the blog (& Kate’s sister) just happens to have fun handwriting that they wanted to incorporate into the header awhile back. When we moved the blog, keeping that header in tact was important and also served as the basis for the website’s color palate:
